Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) V.S.Bajwa and (Urban Development) Jasbir Singh on Friday took stock of the stubble-burning scenario in the Nakodar and Phillaur sub-divisions of the district.
Presiding over the meetings in Nakodar and Phillaur, they asked all cluster/nodal officers in the sub-divisions to galvanize all resources and ensure the farmers do not burn the stubble at any cost. They said that they must visit every village to check the situation. They asked the peasantry to make extensive use of the available agricultural machinery provided by the agriculture department for effectively managing stubble without resorting to burning. They said that those violating the orders must be penalized. Bajwa said that one case of stubble burning has been reported in Nakodar and the erring farmer has been challaned and told all cluster/nodal officers in the sub-divisions that the coming ten/twelve days are very important, and they should watch areas allotted to them and take immediate action where any case of stubble burning is reported.
SDM Irwin Kaur told officers that the pollution control board is sending satellite images of stubble burning which should be reported immediately and if any cluster officer faces any difficulty she should be contacted
ADCs said that active involvement of farmer groups, cooperative societies, and panchayats, can help to eliminate the menace. They also asked the SDM, Irwin Kaur, and SDM Amanpal Singh to honour the progressive farmers for their contribution to curbing stubble burning by utilizing subsidized machinery.
