DLSA launches vocational literacy for Jail Inmates

 Following the directions of the Punjab Legal Services Authority, an exhibition-cum-sale counters were established in the district court complex on Thursday in coordination with NGO "Green Sparrows".
Punjab State Legal Services Authority has launched a campaign called Vocational Literacy for Jail Inmates in Punjab. During the campaign, vocational training was provided by various NGOs and governmental departments to inmates lodged in the Central Jail at Kapurthala. Various products like Jute Bags, Candles, Envelopes, packing materials, etc. were prepared from waste materials like clothes, papers, etc. by jail inmates after getting training from members of NGO Green Sparrows The purpose of the campaign was to impart vocational training to jail inmates so that they could lead a normal life after release from the jail. Many inmates showed willingness to further undergo training. Several products were purchased by the Judicial Officers and members of Bar Association members to encourage the jail inmates.
Speaking on the occasion, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Nirbhow Singh Gill said that the aim of the campaign was to help the inmates in rehabilitation in society. He further said that legal services were being provided to the needy litigants under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 and people can contact toll-free no. 1968 for additional information.
Chief Judicial Magistrate -cum-Secretary DLSA Dr. Gagandeep Kaur stated that DLSA was providing compensation to the victims of rape, under POCSO Act and in hit-and-run cases.
