JALANDHAR
Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal has directed the officials of the Rural Development and Panchayat department to speed up solid waste management projects under Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) Phase-II in the district.
During the meeting in this regard, the Deputy Commissioner said that for these projects in 813 villages of the district, funds of Rs. 439 lakh have already been received as various 122 projects have been started.
Mr. Sarangal also asked the officials to ensure the monitoring of the ongoing solid waste management projects in the villages so that they can be completed within the stipulated time besides reviewing personally on a weekly basis.
The deputy commissioner also said that the remaining villages are to be covered under solid waste management projects as soon as possible to ensure the disposal of wastage in a scientific manner after collecting it from door to door.
Taking stock of the progress of the de-silting chambers being constructed for recharging the water of village ponds, the Deputy Commissioner has asked the officials to complete the work on a priority basis as it will help in maintaining the groundwater level.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that an awareness campaign should be launched by involving education, rural development, and other concerned departments including panchayats so that the problem of waste disposal in the villages to be solved with the cooperation of the people.
