In a major move to clean Kala Sangha drain, Rajya Sabha Member Sant Baba Balbir Singh said that Basti Peer Daad's 15 MLD STP would start functioning next month.
Presiding over a meeting in the district administrative complex, Rajya Sabha Member and Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal said that any kind of inordinate delay in starting the STP was highly unwarranted. MC Commissioner Rishi Pal Singh was also present at the meeting.
MP Rajya Sabha said that Basti Peer Daad's 15 MLD was ready, and a power connection had been applied for the formal starting of the plant. He also asked the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) to provide the electricity connection to STP next week so that it could be ensured that no untreated wastewater was flowing into the drain.
Over the disconnection of electricity connections of dairies responsible direct discharge of dairy waste into the drain, the officials from the drainage department told MP that legal proceedings against the violators had also been started. They asked the officials to take strict action against those found polluting the drain.
The MP also asked the Municipal Corporation to plan a roadmap to construct roads and install fencing and plantations alongside the drains. He also asked the officials to act against those littering around the drain. He also suggested the officials involve NGOs and carry out IEC activities in the areas around the drain to sensitize the people not to throw garbage. He also asked the MCJ to start a bioremediation project to clear garbage at the Wariana dump.
Seechewal also said that the project to clean Kala Sangha drain was one of the dream projects of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and every step was being taken to rejuvenate it.
Deputy Commissioner Sarangal asked the officials of the district administration to work with dedication and leave no stone unturned to play a significant role in cleaning off water bodies.
DC also asked officials of PPCB and other concerned departments to start a campaign at grass root level to aware the people about the diseases occurred due to polluted water besides working in close ties with masses to sensitise about the cleaning of natural water resources.
Later, the MP along with the MC Commissioner and a battery of officials took stock of STP in Focal Point and septic tanks established inside dairies.
Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included ADCs Jasbir Singh, Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, SDM Balbir Raj Singh, Chief Engineer Dr Krunesh Garg, Superintendent Engineer RK Rattra, Executive Engineer Sandeep Kumar and others.
