Local Bodies Minister Balkar Singh on Saturday laid the foundation stones of several roads and sewerage infrastructure projects worth Rs one crore in six villages of the district.
The projects include the laying of interlocking tiles, sewerage, and water pumps in Kalyanpur, Bashesharpur , Naugajjan, Mannan, Bal and Cheema villages worth Rs 1.01 crore.
Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal was also present during the laying of the foundation stone in Cheema village where a new sewerage line will be installed.
Reiterating that Punjab Government is working tirelessly to fulfill the aspirations of the people, the Minister said that the projects whose foundation stones are being laid today will give impetus to the development of the rural areas of the district. He said that the government was focussing on the increased pace of these works to ensure timely completion for facilitating the people.
The Minister said that there was no dearth of funds for carrying out development works. He also asked panchayats to send proposals for more development works in their villages. He said that transparent governance was being ensured with the continuous war against corruption. He said that massive efforts were being made to eradicate corruption from the state.
Local Bodies Minister also kick-started the works of constructing the road from Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk to MC Limit point (Near TV tower) and a cool road worth Rs 14 crores. The stretch from Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk to MC Limit point (near the TV tower) having a length of 5.5 km will be constructed at a cost of Rs 10.50 crore. The cool road (around Length of 1.5 km) will be built worth Rs 3.5 crore. Both roads were excavated for installation of pipes as part of the surface water project and commuters were harried a lot.
