District Magistrate (DM) Vishesh Sarangal has banned the harvesting of paddy through combine machines from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. in the district.
Exercising the powers under section 144 of CRPC, Sarangal said that only those harvesting combines must be used that have BIS certification. He also exhorted the farmers to refrain from harvesting paddy between 7 pm to 8 am to avoid high moisture content in the crop which ultimately leads to delays in procurement of their produce.
The DM said that the moisture content increases during the nighttime and if harvested during the nighttime the farmers may face problems in procurement of their grains in the mandis. In the wake of this situation, Sarangal also appealed to the farmers to bring moisture-free grains to the market adding that the agriculture department must also inform the farmers about this to avoid any sort of inconvenience to them.
