Cabinet minister urges farmers to adopt subsidy techniques to check stubble burning

Local bodies minister of Punjab  Balkar Singh has urged the farming community to play a significant role in controlling air pollution by adopting subsidies machinery to dispose of crop residue in an effective manner.

Today addressing the large no of farmers here at a Kisan Mela organised by the Agricultural and Farmers Welfare Department at Lambra near Jalandhar, the Cabinet Minister said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Mann was providing more than 50 % subsidy on agri -implants to facilitate the farmers for modernization of agriculture and to manage the crop residue in the field to improve the soil health.

Hailing the role played by the farmers of Punjab in making the nation self-reliant in the field of grain production, the minister said that keeping in view the fast-depleting water level in the state, the Punjab Govt is providing Rs. 1500 per acre for encouraging farmers for direct sowing of paddy.

Besides that especially in Malwa region, drainage systems have been rejuvenated after decades so that maximum use of canal water is ensured for irrigation.

The minister also facilitated the 100 farmers for working as a torch bearer by not burning the crop residue in fields. Besides that Govt officials namely XEN Sandeep Kumar PPCB, Eng Navdeep Singh, Dr Jaswinder Singh, Dr Ranjit Chauhan, and Jagtar singh were also facilitated by the minister for working to curb stubble burning.

Agriculture experts from PAU also share their experiences with farmers to enhance their income from farming with new crop patterns.

Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Director Agricultural Jaswant Singh, CAO Jaswant Rai .
