The district administration will take strict action against educational institutes for withholding the degrees of SC students on account of non-deposition of their dues under the post-matric scholarship scheme.
Presiding over a meeting in the District Administrative Complex, Additional Deputy Commissioner (UD) Jasbir Singh said that debarring any student from the examination or withholding the degree on the name of the Post Matric Scholarship scheme would not be tolerated at any cost. He said that the scheme had been initiated to enable the students of weaker and underprivileged sections to get higher education so that they could contribute to the development of the state.
Singh said that undue harassment of the students on the pretext of this scheme was completely unwarranted. He said that the state government was committed to implementing this scheme to benefit the students with the active support of the educational institutions. He said that the objective of the scheme was to provide monetary aid to the reserved category students for completing their graduation and masters.
Singh also asked colleges to set up help desks in their premises where beneficiaries of the scheme can contact in case any problem they face. Further, he also said that colleges must also display the guidelines and instructions of the scheme on the notice boards.
In the meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner also listened to the issues raised by the college management and assured to take the matter with the appropriate authorities.
