Ensure no stagnant water near surroundings: ADC

JALANDHAR
The Additional Deputy Commissioner Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa on Thursday said that the spread of dengue could be effectively checked if everyone spends a few minutes to ensure no stagnant clean water in their houses and surroundings.

Speaking this during the District Health Society’s meeting held here today, Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa urged the residents to inspect their homes and surroundings for any possible source of stagnant clean water that can lead to the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes. He said that this would save themselves and others from dengue. He said that the dengue mosquito had a range of 200 meters and so if people check their houses and encourage others to do the same, will strengthen the fight against the vector-borne disease. He said that everyone must ensure desert coolers, flowerpots, fridge trays and other containers in their houses are free of clean stagnant water.

Bajwa said that the district had witnessed 48 positive cases so far and the disease was largely under control than in previous years. He instructed the officials concerned to actively observe Friday as a dry day and asked the education department to sensitize the students in schools about the symptoms and prevention of dengue. He also asked the Senior Medical Officers to lead the dry day drive in their areas to tackle the disease.

Meanwhile, he also took stock of the functioning of Aam Aadmi Clinics, MR Elimination Program, Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karaykarm, De-Addiction and OOAT centers, Janani Suraksha Yojna, TB Mukt Abhiyan Programme, and others.
