Farmers re-transplant  paddy in  6460-acre area in Lohian Khas

As the district administration and agriculture and farmers welfare department is providing paddy saplings to the farmers free of cost whose crop was lost in floods, around 6460 acres of area in Lohian  Khas has been re-sown with early maturing varieties of the paddy.

Moreover, the paddy re-cultivation on 1000 acres of area is on and the exercise will be completed within a few days.

Divulging  details, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal said that as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the department was asked to get 25 quintal seeds and officials used vacant lands to prepare the saplings with the help of volunteers.

He said that WhatsApp groups involving officials and farmers' bodies were also formed to remain in touch with affected peasants so that they could receive the saplings and re-transplant.

"The officials were asked to reach every flood-affected farmer so that they can re-sow the saplings as soon as possible", said Sarangal and added that the district administration would extend every possible help to them to ensure speedy rehabilitation.

Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Jaswant Rai said that the department was constantly in touch with the affected farmers through WhatsApp groups. He said that massages were given to the farmers in the groups to get saplings and those needed, were received from the department on the same day. Most of the farmers have re-sown PR-126 and some choose Basmati 1509.
