Door-to-door survey to check Dengue larvae in Jalandhar

JALANDHAR.

Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Kaplish on Thursday ordered an extensive door-to-door survey from Friday in the city to keep dengue at bay.
Presiding over a workshop in the building of the Municipal Corporation, Kaplish said that 115 hot spots were identified by the Municipal Corporation and Health department in the city where dengue cases are being reported every year. He said that every Gazetted Officer of MC with his team would be in the field from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and conduct door-to-door surveys in their areas. He said that the teams would educate the residents about possible breeding sites of Aedes Aegypti and Aedes Albopictus mosquitoes, responsible for dengue, besides challaning on the spot if larvae were found. He said that citizens must be sensitized to keep water tanks and containers covered, and not allow water to accumulate in and around their houses/establishments. He said that water containers including pots, fridge trays, tyres, desert coolers, etc must be checked out as these were main breeding grounds of mosquitoes.
Kaplish said that teams would share pictures and videos of their survey immediately in the WhatsApp Group of special cell. He said that the officers would also ensure the checking of larvae in their offices. He warned that strict monitoring of their work will be conducted and said negligent officers will face the music.
The MC Commissioner also asked the schools/educational institutions to ensure their students wear full-sleeved shirts and trousers to cover their hands and legs properly. He also appealed to the people to cooperate and support these teams when they will arrive to inspect the larvae in their houses. He asked the people to ensure no clean standing water in any part of the house/street which is the best way to protect you from dengue. He said that prevention was better than cure and therefore, people must resolve that they will declare war against dengue.
District Epidemiologist Dr. Adityapaul Singh also gave a detailed presentation regarding dengue disease in the workshop.
