Bhupinder Singh Saggu, president of municipal council Kotkapura and Amratpal Singh, thene executive officer of the local council have been booked on the charges of allegedly disposing off a Neem Tree from old grain market Kotkapura.
The case against the two has been registered on the complaint of Swtantar Joshi, the senior vice president of the local MC.
"The complainant had submitted a complaint to the senior superintendent of police Faridkot, the inquiry of which is pending. But the complainant had also made an inquiry into the disappearance of an old Neem Tree himself as well. Now he has found out that the tree was allegedly disposed off without the permission of the forest department by the accused,' reads the police complaint.
A case against the two has been registered at city police station Kotkapura under section 379 of IPC.
Bhupinder Singh Saggu could not be contacted for his version as his phone was switched off.
If he gives his version later on, it will be published.
However, the sources said that there was a longstanding conflict between two factions of the local counselors because they had their affiliation to two different groups of the congress party.
The case dates back to February 2022.
