DC order banning movement of animals in herds not implemented.

NAKODAR/SHAHKOT/NURMAHAL

The Jalandhar deputy commissioner’s (DC) order banning the movement of cattle in form of herds has become a piece of paper as members of the Gujjar community are grazing their animals on roads, canals, and other places without any fear.
The then DC Varinder Kumar Sharma in his order issued on September 6  2017 had said that the general public and social associations have brought to his notice that many people especially in rural areas roam around with a herd of animals, Order said that this results in unwanted obstruction in traffic and cause accidents which causes human loss.
The order said these herds of animals destroy tree sampling plated on roads by the forest department and also farmers ’ crops. It says that these herds of animals also affect the Swash Campaign launched by Prime Minister.

The order had banned the movement of animals in herds in rural areas and authorized concerned authorities to act against violators.

Bhupindar Kumar alias Sonu a Nurmahal social activist and journalist in many representations to deputy commissioners said that no action was taken by any competent authority or department to implement this order in the last six years.

He said that he and other residents lodged many complaints against the movement of animals in herds in rural and urban areas in Nurmahal police station but to no avail and demanded a permanent solution to this problem.
