Breach at Gatta Mandi Kasu to be plugged in a few days: Local Bodies Minister

 Punjab Local Bodies Minister Balkar Singh on Monday said that the major breach having a length of more than 900 feet at Gatta Mundi Kasu would be plugged in a few days as the District Administration and Sangat started the work at full pace from both ends.

Cabinet Minister Balkar Singh, Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Nakodar MLA Inderjit Kaur Mann, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal along with other officials concerned, and people from the nearby areas got the work initiated at full capacity to facilitate people at the earliest. The Minister appreciated the round-the-clock activities to plug the breach by the Administration and Sangat, which would bring positive results in a short span of time as they did the same at the Mandala Channa breach. He said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was regularly getting updates about the progress of work besides emphasizing ensuring requisite facilities and services to affected families in this tough time. He also said once the breach was plugged it would bring life back on track facilitating people’s smooth movement and looking after their houses and livestock. He pointed out that Punjab Government was fully committed to the handholding of people facing problems due to natural calamities after heavy rains. He said the power supply had also been restored as well as the medical teams were continuously distributing requisite medicines and carrying out medical checks in these areas. He also thanked people from all walks of life for coming forward to help the people facing hardships.

Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal said the official of District Administration and Sangat had taken the work on mission mode, which would ensure plugging the breach in days to come thus paving the way for normalizing the present circumstances.

Nakodar MLA Inderjit Kaur Mann also thanked District Administration and Sangat for their tireless efforts to plug the Mandala breach and hoped it would be covered shortly.

Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal also visited both sides of the breach to review the status of ongoing work. He also instructed the officials concerned to further intensify the pace so as to accomplish the task at the earliest. He asked the police officials to ensure hassle-free movement of vehicles bringing sand and soil bags to plug the breach. The Minister, MLA, and Deputy Commissioner also visited the staff installed by the medical teams to know about the distribution of medicines and other healthcare services in the area.
