People, Seechewal team plugs a breach in Sutlej River

Peoples of Punjab and volunteers of Dera Seechewal led by Rajya Sabha member Sant Babbir Singh on Saturday afternoon successfully plugged more than 300 wide breach in dhussi Bandh of Sutlej River at Mandhala Chhana village.

After five days of struggle, the fast flow of river water was stopped by karates of sandbags with the slogan “Bole So Nihal”.

Work of plugging 900 feet-wide breach at Gatta Mundi Kasu village is under progress.

Environmentalist Balbir Singh while thanking Punjabi People and the Government said no challenge is bigger than human courage saying that the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is very serious to improve the conditions of rivers.  

Efforts are in full swing to strengthen breach plugging with the earth.

This breach occurred on July 10 night flooding many villages of the Lohian block.

 

Meanwhile Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh on Saturday said that the State Government was fully geared up to prevent any spread of water and vector-borne diseases in flood-hit areas besides ensuring requisite medical and healthcare services to people in affected places.
While reviewing the functioning of the Health Department’s teams in Jalandhar and Kapurthala districts here at the local DAC, the Minister stated that Punjab Government was aware of the expected outbreak of such diseases as the water level receded. He said elaborate healthcare arrangements had also been finalized besides deputing medical teams in flood-affected areas of the state so as to efficaciously contain the health problems, if any.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was minutely monitoring the situation, said the Minister adding that the State Government had already given its nod to the funds needed for this purpose. He said that medical teams were continuously holding camps besides providing needful medicines to the affected people. He also interacted with the Civil Surgeons, Senior Medical Officers, representatives of the Indian Medical Association, and doctors of private hospitals to get information in both districts. He commended the role of health teams, IMA, and religious organizations working shoulder-to-shoulder with the Punjab Government to help the people in distress. The Minister also reiterated that the State Government was making all-out efforts to ensure healthcare services in such remote areas. The Members of IMA have also handed over a large quantity of medicines to the Minister, which could be given to the people in flood-affected areas.
