Three members of a family from Kotkapura town died when the roof of their house collapsed at about 4 AM Thursday.The woman who died in the roof collapsing incident was eight months pregnant.
“My son Gurpreet Singh,31, his eight months pregnent wife Karamjeet Kaur ,30 and 4 years old grandson were lying asleep inside the room when the roof collapsed at about 4 AM today,” said Ram Rakha Singh, father of the deceased.
Another girl, a relative of the family, also got injured.
He said that he heard the thud and woke up at a startle.
“I shouted for help and neighbors rushed immediately,” he said.
“We tried our best to rescue the family buried under the bebris, but they were very serious.No ambulance reached the spot and we shifted the injured to local hospital from where they were referred to GGS medical college. But died on the way,” said a neighbour.
The family was the resident of street number 6 of Devi Wala road Kotkapura.
“With heavy rainfalls, all the fields behind our houses have been flooded. It damaged the foundation of the house which led to its giving in,” said Ram Rakha Singh.
Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha reached the house of the deceased and assured them all kinds of help.
“It is a very sad moment and I have no words to express the grief. But I appeal to all the people to inspect their houses for safety. The Government can compensate them, but the deceased can not be revived,” he said.
Besides him, Ajaypal Singh Sandhu, congress halqa incharge of Kotkapura also rushed to the spot to express his condolences to the family.
