Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner (DC)Vishesh Sarangal on Sunday visited the Shahkot subdivision to check flood control measures.
He asked the sub-divisional magistrate to get vacated around 50 villages situated along the bank of River Sutlej which are low-laying and flood-prone.
DC said that this is only a preventative measure and there is no danger of floods. He talked to people living in the villages and issued directions to officials to keep a close tab on the water level in the river so that requisite arrangements could be made timely.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today asked all officers to reach out to people living in river areas.
