The Shahkot police have arrested a pickup van driver on charges of causing death by negligence, causing grievous hurt by act endangering the life or personal safety of others, rash driving on a public road, and mischief.
Investigating officer (IO) Jagtar Singh said the accused has been identified as Kashmir Singh son of Sohan Lal a resident of Thakur Dwara, Indore in Kangarra district Himachal Pradesh.
Jaspreet Kaur a resident of Taraf Haji village under Sultan Pur Lodhi police station complained to the police that she along with her family was returning from Nakodar in their car which was being driven by his cousin Harman Vijay Singh (23) on July 7.
She said when they reached Billi Chaharmi village bus station on the Nakodar Shahkot Highway the accused who was driving his van rashly and negligently hit their car and killed his cousin on the spot and injured others.
IO said a case under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving on public roads) 337and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 427 (mischief) of the IPC has been registered against the accused and impounded his pickup van
