Havey rainfall lashed in Faridkot, crops submerged, streets unindated

Faridkot
Very heay rainfall lashed in Faridkot on Saturday between 11 AM and 3 PM leading to the life stand still in towns of Faridkot, Kotkapura and Jaitu where streets were unindated under about 2 feet deep waters.
The rains led to the submersan of paddy,Moong, cotton and silage crop of corn at many places in low lying areas.
According to the experts,if any crop including paddy remains submerged more than 3 to 4 days,it may be destroyed.
The rains almost lashed across the Malwa region, may lead to considerable loss to cotton, moong and paddy crop besides making the maize crop meant to be grown for silage nearly difficult.
When contacted,Dr Karanjeet Singh Gill about the figure of the rainfall today,he said that the exact data would be available late, however, nearly 40 to 50 percent rainfall has taken place in the district.
"There could be loss to the cotton crop and moog where water keeps standing for some days.If the paddy fields remain submerged under water for over three days, the plants might be damaged. So wherever possible, the farmers should try to drain out the rain water,"said Dr Karanjeet Singh Gill, chief agriculture officer Faridkot.
Besides the above crops, the vegetable crops are bound to badly hit by rains leading to much higher prices of those.
