The Mehat Put police found a newly born male baby on Saturday.
Station House Officer (SH0) Jatinder Kumar said that an unidentified person had thrown the baby aged about seven days in the sugarcane field at Maheru village.
SHO said the police reached the spot after information and rushed the baby to Nakodar civil hospital for a medical checkup as the baby was suffering from fever and sent him to Child Welfare Committee Jalandhar adding that further investigation is on and an unmarried mother might have thrown it in the field.
