Travel agent booked for duping Shahkot villager of Rs 43 lakhs

 

SHAHKOT

The Shahkot police have booked a travel agent on the charge of duping a Shahkot village resident of Rs 43 on the pretext of sending him abroad.

 Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Jalandhar (rural) Harjit Singh who is investigating officer (IO) in this case said that the accused has been identified as Nirmal Singh son of Mohan Singh a resident of Punia Mand village under Shahkot police station.

Sodhi son of Gurdial Singh a resident of Lasoorri village complained to Jalandhar (rural) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) that he paid Rs 43 lakhs to the accused for facilitating his migration to Canada. However, he was neither sent abroad nor returned the money.

 

DSP said a case under section 406(breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)and section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act has been registered against the accused after an inquiry.
