Cabinet minister for water resources(irrigation department) Meet Hayer on Monday said that the Sanjhe Khalas(joint water channels owned by the farmers) meant to carry canal water to the fields of the individuals have been declared to be the government ones.

“Earlier, there was a common problem faced by the farmers because some of the farmers did not allow others to dig up the Sanjhe Khalas(common or joint water channels) on their land. Only some of the farmers used their water and the rest of others could not use it because of the disputes. So, we have issued a notification in this regard that all common channels jointly owned by the farmers would now be government water channels. So nobody can stop others from digging up those water channels. It will help the farmers use canal water instead of extricating the sub soil water,” said Meet Hayer, minister for water resources.

He said that now the Bhagwant Mann led government has flown the canal water to the full capacity while earlier it was flowing almost at half capacity.

He said that it was the canal water of the state of Punjab.

Further, he said that his department has also removed a hurdle in repairing the water channels, minors and others.

“Now those can be repaired before the completion of their construction of 25 years. Now we have removed the condition of the 25 years and those can be repaired at any time due to damage. However, the accountability and cause of the damage or braking will be ascertained,” said Hayer addressing the  media persons in Chandigarh.

He claimed that his government has constructed about 13471 water channels in two months.
