A 20 years old girl died when the roof of the house of a poor family in village Bir Sikhan Wala caved in last night.
The four members of the family of Iqbal Singh alias Bughi,60, were lying asleep in the verandah of their small house when the roof collapsed.
"Iqbal Singh, his wife Sunita kaur,58, son Ravi Singh,22 and daughter Guddo Kaur,20, were lying asleep when the rood of their verandah caved in all of the sudden at midnight. The people heard the thud and cries of the family burdened under the debris,"said Ranjeet Singh, a youth from village Bir Sikhan Wala.
"The locals immediately rushed to their help and entered the house by breaking open the doors.The injured were shifted to the GGS medical college and hospital immediately, but Guddo Kaur succumbed to her injuries during the treatment," said Ranjeet Singh.
Tejinder Singh, husband of the village Sarpanch demanded all possible financial help for the family to construct the house and an ex gratia grant for the death of the family member.
The roof collapsed because of the rusted and poor quality of the Girders used to support the roof.
"The heavy material of the roof allegedly crushed the abdomen of the deceased, rupturing her internal organs and spinal cord," said Bittu Singh, another local who visited the hospital to inquire about the injured.
He said that others had minor injuries.
Advocate Birinder Singh Sandhwan reached the spot in the morning and assured the family of all kinds of support.
