The Nurmahal police have arrested a local resident and booked two other residents on the charges of cheating and gambling.
Station House Officer (SHO) Sukhdev Singh said that the accused has been identified as Parshotam Lal alias Sonu son of Som Nath a resident of Mohalla Parainchiyan, Nurmahal.
SHO said that the police have received secret information that the accused and his three accomplices Vishal alias Riki alias Gheinko a resident of Mohalla Surrainiyan and Deep a resident of Mohalla Falaiwala were selling betting slips near a liquor vend on Jalandhar Road.
SHO said the police raided the spot and arrested one accused and his two accomplices managed to flee and recovered Rs 1,41,000, betting slips, three pens one pencil, and 7 packets of playing cards were recovered from the spot.
SHO said a case under section 420(cheating) of the IPC and sections 13A-3-67 of the Punjab Gambling Act has been registered against the accused and raids are being conducted to arrest absconders.
