Kapurthala June 20 ; Kapurthala police today arrested Punjab Police Assistant Sub Inspector and one middle man on the charges of accepting a bribe of rupees 21 lakh for the release of a notorious drug smuggler Joginder Singh in a NDPS case .
Senior Superintendent of police Rajpal Singh Sandhu when contacted today confirmed the arrest of ASI and a middle man and registration of criminal case against one more ASI in a corruption case .
Narrating the details of the incident, SSP said he received a phone call from Jalandhar SSP rural on Monday regarding the corruption charges against two ASI’s and one middle man on freeing the arrested drug smuggler from a NDPS case registered in 2022.
Acting swiftly on the information, SSP deputed a senior police officer and on his findings registered a case of corruption against them.
SSP identified the arrested ASI as Paramjit Singh and middle man Onkar Singh while their third accomplice ASI Harjit Singh is absconding fearing his arrest.
Narraring the details of the incident , police said Jalandhar police arrested drug smuggler Joginder Singh resident of Boot village infamous for drug smuggling on June 12 this year in the subhanpur area and recovered six kilo heroin and drug money of rupees three thousandfrom his possession. On his preliminary interrogation, he confessed before the police that kapurthala police took a bribe of rupees 21 lakh in a NDPS case registered against him in Kapurthala district in 2022 and bribe money was given to both ASI’s by his wife to discharge him from NDPS case.
Police registered a case of corruption under section 7 and 22 and 120 B against all the accused.
