The Nurmahal police have booked a Gurdass Pur district resident on the charge of duping a Nurmahal village woman of Rs 1lakh .19500 on a promise of helping her in adopting a male child.
The Station House Officer (SHO) Sukhdev Singh said that the accused has been identified as Mohit Kumar son of Balvir Singh a resident of ward no 5, Dhariwal Gurdas Pur
Harwindar Kaur wife of Harjindar Kumar a resident of Dadu Wal village complained to the Senior Superintendent of Police that the accused promised her to help with the adoption of a male child and duped her of Rs 1,19500.
She said in the complaint that he threatened her with dire consequences when she asked the accused to return the money.
SHO said a case under sections 406(breach of trust) and 420(cheating) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused after an inquiry.
