Providing a big relief to the farmers, new deputy commissioner Faridkot, Vineet Kumar on Friday has fixed the rates for the measurement of the land by GPS system, locally known as measurement by machines.

The DC has instructed to all the machine operators that they can charge only Rs 6000 for the measurement/demarcation of land upto 25 acre of land. If the area adds up, they can charge an additional of Rs 250 per acre.

“The demarcation of land is a very important issue and the farmers or others have to manage the machines(i.e. GPS system machines) for getting the demarcation of land. But I have learnt that the machine operators are charging the rates of land measurement as per their whims and  fancies. It is an exploitation of the farmers and it also depicts the image of the government in poor light,” said Vineet Kumar,DC Faridkot in a press release to the media.

“I have instructed all the Kanugoes(revenue officials) ,mainly responsible for the demarcation of land,to ensure that the machine operators charge only fixed rates . The decision in this regard has been taken after a meeting with the machine operators and it leads to no loss to anybody. If anybody is found charging more than the fixed rates, strict action will be taken against him,” reads the press note.

“As for the demarcation of land by machines is concerned, they(machine operators) charge a minimum of Rs 5000 upto 5 acres of land and next depends upon the negotiation. Even at places, Rs 1000 is charged by them as there was no fixation of rates there earlier. It is a very appropriate decision of the DC Faridkot to provide a big relief to the farmers because the demarcation of land is very important. Most of the farmers have to get it done and it can avoid many disputes,” said Gurpreet Singh Brar, proprietor of Brar Real Estate from village Bir Sikhan wala.

Vineet Kumar had also issued directions in this regard about a week ago when he was the DC of Muktsar.
