Anticipatory bail granted to Parkash Singh Badal, no relief to his son Sukhbir Badal in Kotkapura sacrilege incidence

The court of additional district and sessions judge Faridkot, Rajiv Kalra, today oradered to grant anticipatory  bail to Parkash Singh Badal while the bail of Sukhbir Singh Badal was rejected, partly allowing and dismissing the bail application of Badal father –son duo.

Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal had moved an application in the court seeking anticipatory bail in the Kotkapura police firing incident, on March 9.

The special investigation team had filed a chargesheet in the case on February 24 and on March 6, the court had summoned  the accused in this case,including Sukhbir Singh Badal, then deputy chief minister Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal, then CM Punjab, Sumedh Singh Saini, then DGP Punjab,Parmraj Singh Umranangal, the commissioner of police Ludhiana, Amar Singh Chahal, then DIG,Sukhminder Singh Mann, then SSP Faridkot, Charanjeet Singh Sharma, then SSP Moga and Gurdeep Singh, then SHO city Kotkapura.

Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal had filed an application seeking anticipatory bail on March 9, which came up for hearing on March 14. The court had reserved the order that day which was pronounced today.

The SIT team led by ADGP, LK Yadav, formed on April 9,2021, was investigating the case registered at police station Kotkapura,no 129 dated 7/10/18 in which there were were allegations that the police used brute force to disperse the peaceful protesters sitting at Kotkapura chowk,on October 14,2015.

The present SIT was formed by the Congress government after the high court had quashed earlier SIT led by Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, the IG rank officer.

The  accused were booked under sections 307/119/109/153/323/324/341/504/34/120 B of IPC besides arms act in that case.

The court has granted bail to Parkash Singh Badal being very aged, 95 and being the four times CM of Punjab.

The court has said that in case of arrest, Parkash Singh Badal be released on a personal bond of surety of Rs 5 lakh immediately.

While Sukhbir Singh Badal has not been given any relief by the court.
