The Jalandhar (rural) police on Monday claimed to bust another gang of criminals indulging in extortion in Nakodar city and arrested its three members including a woman.
Jalandhar (rural) Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarabjit Singh Bahia told media said that the accused have been identified as Rahul Kumar alias Aman son of Major Lal a resident of Mohalla Aawa, Nakodar, his mother Sukhwindar Kaur and brother-in-law Simran Jit Singh alias Sunni son of Balkar Singh a resident of Mohalla Mallia Zira, Feroze Pur.
Bahia said that Nakodar city sub-inspector Bhupinder Singh has received a piece of information from a social activist that the accused had formed a gang which is making threatening phone calls to a Nakodar resident and demanding Rs 45 lakh as ransom and had sent an ultimatum to pay the money by January 2 otherwise they will kill him as cloth merchant Bhupinder Singh Chawla alias Timmi was done to death.
SP said that he minutely monitored the case, formed various teams, and arrested three accused, adding that Aman is the kingpin of this gang who procured sims on fake identity.
Bahia said a case under sections 386 (extorsion by putting a person in fear of death),120-B (criminal conspiracy), and 34(committing the crime with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused and their accomplice Jaskirat Singh alias Jaskaran Singh alias Jassa son of Gurnam Singh a resident of Mohalla Dherian, Shahkot town, and further investigations are on.
