NAKODAR
The Nakodar Nagar council (NC) has not only failed to make a judicious use of the defence land transferred to it, it even does not know the present status of the land. An area of 126 Kanals and six marlas of defence land was transferred to the NC in 1981. The Nagar council had constructed quarters on the transferred land and some portion of it had been sold to the telecom department. Locals had allegedly encroached upon some portions of the transferred land.
The executive officer of the NC in a letter dated December 10, 1980 to the military estate officer Jalandhar Cantt. had said that "It is conformed that such land
belonging to the defance will not be given on lease. The MC is not going to earn profit from this land" But the NC sold seven kanal and four marlas land to the telecom department in 1990. A big chunk of the land is allegedly lying unused in the shape of a pond full of dirty water on the back of old judicial complex which is being encroached by a Dera. Locals have demanded an inquiry in to the alleged irregularities in this.
