NURMAHAL
The ongoing Rs`24.4-crore project for laying sewerage pipelines in Nurmahal is not completed and commissioned even after 14 years.
The project, started by the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) and allotted to private agencies is going on at snail’s pace. As per schedule, the project was to be completed in nine months.
The then Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had laid the foundation of the project on February 11, 2011. Under the scheme, the main sewerage pipelines of km length and branch lines of 31 km in length were to be laid down in the entire town for the drainage of sewage to one place.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Estimate Committee of the Vidhan Sabha had constituted a sub-committee to conduct a joint survey on the issue of the sewerage system in Nurmahal and working of sewage treatment plant (STP).
Following the directions, the sub-committee had conducted a joint survey on this issue and a report was prepared in this regard and submitted it to the office of the Deputy commissioner.
Jallandhar Deputy Commissioner had reviewed the draft report of the sub-committee on the Nurmahal Sewerage and submitted it to the Estimate Committee.
Subcommittee had concluded in its report that Rs 5.22 crores are required to complete the treatment plant and allied works.
Glada junior engineer Anmol Chopra said subcommittee estimate report is pending with the government adding that when funds are released sewerage system would be completed.
