Declare approach road to Nurmahal Sarai ‘no traffic zone’: residents

NURMAHAL

Nurmahal areas residents have demanded that approach to Nurmahal Sarai, a protested monument, should be declared a no traffic zone to solve the problems of encroachments on it.

Dilbag Singh, a resident of Baina Pur village and a social activist in a written representation to Nakodar MLA Inderjit Kaur Maan said the municipal council had declared the approach road as no traffic zone following an order passed by the Punjab and Haryana high court in 2015.

Dilbag Singh said that after some time the Nurmahal Nagar council has taken back its decision to declare the approach road to historic Sarai a vehicle-free zone from 9 AM to 6 PM and removed iron rope to restrict the movement of vehicles under political pressure exserted by the then MLA G. S Wadala.

It had installed girders to tie iron ropes to restrict the movement of vehicles from 9 AM To 6 PM.

Dilbag Singh said residents had lodged a complaint with the president’s secretariat in March 2012 against the failure of authorities concerned to remove illegal parking flowing which approach road was declared a vehicle zone for a limited period.

After this NC marked a yellow line on both sides of the approach road for parking vehicles and had written to the police to challan those residents who do not park in yellow lines.

But nobody was able to park in yellow lines which were already encroached upon by shopkeepers and stall owners.

Dilbagh Singh said that now approach road has  become a parking place for every vehicle owner posing problems for tourists visiting Nurmahal Sarai.
