Couple arrested for collecting ransom money for gangsters

NAKODAR 

The Nakodar city police have arrested a couple who was working as a conduit for abroad-based gangsters in collecting ransom money from targeted Nakodar businessmen.

The Station House officer (SHO) Sukhdev Singh said that the accused have been identified as Swaran Singh son of Ajit Singh a resident of Bajuha Khurd village and his wife Kuldeep Kaur.

SHO said that the accused couple was the conduit working for gangsters Amardeep Singh alias Aman Purewal son of Charanjit a native of Malarri village and presently living in 828 Allen Way, Yuba City, USA,  and Swaran Singh a native of Bhindar Kalan village in Moga and presently living in Allen Way, Yuba City, USA.

SHO said that the accused Aman had phoned Iqbal Singh a resident of Nakodar demanding Rs 40 lakhs as a ransom and threatened to kill him if he does not pay and had asked the accused couple to collect the ransom money and hand it over to  Tarsem Singh alias Sethi son of Karnail Singh a resident of ward no 5, Begowal in Kapurthala who has been arrested and money has been recovered from his possession.

SHO said a case under sections 386,387(extortion by putting any person in fear of death or of grievous hurt),120-B (criminal conspiracy), and 506(criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused.
