The Mehatpur police have arrested a scrap dealer on the charge of purchasing stolen stealing copper wires from thieves.
The investigating officer (IO) Balwindar Singh said that the accused has been identified as Kamal alias Ajay son of Jaswant a resident of near civil hospital Mehat Pur who used to purchase stolen copper wires by Sajan son of Balkar a resident of Mohalla Chopra Mehat Pur and Jaswinder Singh alias Jassi son of Amarjit Singh a resident of Gahi Bhainni under Kum Kalan police station, Ludhiana who were arrested earlier.

Hardip Singh a resident of Mohalla Samar Mehat Pur and area residents had complained to the police that the accused were indulging in stealing copper wires in Angakirrui village and other areas of Mehat Pur.
IO said that 10 kilograms of copper wire stolen from farmer’s transformers was recovered from the accused. A case under sections 379 (theft) and 411(dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC was registered against the accused
