A day after the complaint by the residents of village Surghuri of Jaitu SubDivision, the police teams comprising DSP(PIB)Faridkot,SHO Jaitu and anti narcotis cell raided the village this morning.
The village residents including a committee formed to check the drug menace, village Sarpanch Baltej Singh and others on Tuesday met Gagnesh Kumar,SP(Investigation) alleging that the drug smuggling in their village is rampant and Jaitu police fail to take any action against the drug smugglers.
“There is a very big problem of Chiita(sic), a synthetic drug, kind of heroin and even small children have started taking it.It is being sold in broad day light.We have also reported the problem to the police station Jaitu, but no action has been taken against the drug smugglers and pedllers.We had come to meet the senior superintendent of police today(Tuedsay), but in his absence, we have submitted our complaint to the SP(D) Sahib about it. He has fully assured us that strict action will be taken on our complaint,”allegd Baltej Singh,village Sarpanch speaking to the reporters.
Replying to the media query, he said that the locals are the drug suppliers in the village.
Another resident of the village, Lakhwinder Singh alleged that the chitta is being sold fearlessly in our village and drug addicts from the neighbouring village buy it from our village.
“Despite repeated requests, we were not heard by the local police(Jaitu). So today, the village panchayat, activists of Kisan union and village residents, besides a committee formed to stop drugs, have come to meet the SSP Faridkot demanding that the inquiry into the drug smuggling be handed over to the STF,” alleged Lakhwinder Singh, a local.
He further alleged that the Jaitu police have some connections with the drug peddlers and they inform them before the raid.

The SP speak
“I had received the complaint in this regard.Our police teams including DSP(PIB) ,SHO Jaitu besides an anti narcotic cell raided the village this morning. The 5 persons were detained in this regard while a case against the two has been registered,” said Gagnesh Kumar,SP(I) When contacted.
The police said that some of the person's pointed to were drug addicts, not smugglers.
“Nobody will be spared,we have established contact with the village residents and whose names they have taken, we have raided. We have taken a serious note of this complaint,” he said.
The police denied the allegations of any kinds of links with drug smugglers in the village.
The problem started from within, woken up after bearing the brunt
The sources said that the drug addicts allegedly sell the drug.
“The problem was created from within the village by some people, who started drug smuggling in the village. But when they themselves bore the brunt, they have woken up.Besides it, there is some fractionlism in the village.Earlier the locals had shut their eyes because the influentials from the area were involved in it. But now having suffered themselves, they have woken up,” said a reliable source close to this correspondent.
In another facebook video with some local reporters, a youth from the village, who was allegedly accused by the locals of selling drugs in the village counter, alleged the two locals.
