Vigilance Bureau arrests meter reader for taking bribe of Rs 500

 

 

FARIDKOT: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign on Thursday arrested Gurmeet Singh, Meter Reader, posted in Sub Division, Sri Muktsar Sahib for accepting a bribe of Rs.500.

          Giving this information here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above-mentioned meter reader has been arrested on the basis of an online complaint lodged by Sandeep Kumar, resident of Tibbi Sahib Road, Sri Muktsar Sahib on the Chief Minister's Anti-Corruption Action Line.

          He further informed that the complainant has alleged in the online complaint that the said power employee had demanded a bribe of Rs. 2,000 from the complainant by threatening to have excess load of electricity at the time of meter reading of his flour mill and taken Rs. 500 as a bribe. The complainant had made a video recording while the accused was taking this money which he had given as evidence along with the complaint to VB.

          During the investigation of this complaint by the Bureau, it was found that the said accused had received a bribe from the complainant, on the basis of which a case has been registered against the said meter reader under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station, Bathinda, and further proceedings have been initiated in this regard.
