PHSC fails to complete construction of MCH building at Nakodar even after six years

NAKODAR

The Punjab Health Systems Corporation (PHSC) has failed to complete the construction of a 30-bed mother-child hospital (MCH)at Nakodar even after more than six years.  The then Nakodar MLA Gurpartap Singh Wadala laid the foundation stone of a 30-bed mother and child hospital on June 3, 2016.

The Punjab government had sanctioned Rs. Rs 6 crore in this connection. Earlier, the government had proposed a 30-bedded mother and childcare hospital under the central government scheme at the Nakodar civil hospital with the help of an Rs`6.9 crore grant, which had lapsed due to the negligent attitude of concerned health authorities.

Addressing a public meeting, Wadala had said that the building would be completed within a year. It will provide the best facilities for institutional deliveries and will take care of mother and child health.

Wadala had said that it is the government’s policy to encourage institutional deliveries to reduce the mortality death rate and child mortality rates.

PHSC subdivision officer Rajindar Soni had said in the month of May 2022 that the contractor who was allotted construction work has failed to complete the construction work in time and has been penalized and now the construction work will be completed by July 15, 2022

It may be mentioned here that a thirty-bed mother-child hospital (MCH), under a central government scheme, is being constructed at Nakodar civil hospital with two-three independent operation theatres.

It may be mentioned here that the Punjab government has not accepted the feasibility report prepared by the health and family welfare department to upgrade Nakodar civil hospital from the existing 50 beds to 100 beds. The health and Family welfare department of the state in its feasibility report prepared on the High Court’s directions had said that 58 new medical and non-medical posts had to be created at a total cost of Rs1.74 14820 for upgrading Nakodar civil hospital from the existing 50 beds to 100 beds. In a reply under the Right to Information act, the director of health and family welfare said in 2014 that a proposal in this regard was sent to the principal secretary of health.

The Punjab and Haryana High court had directed the authorities concerned to prepare a feasibility report on Nakodar civil hospital’s up-gradation disposing of a civil writ petition filed by social activist Aditya Bhatara on July 12, 2013.
