The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested a couple on the charge of duping a Nakodar village resident of Rs.35 lakhs on the pretext of sending his son abroad.
The Investigating officer (IO) and in-charge Uggi police post-Sukhwindar Singh said that the accused have been Sukhchain Singh son of Bir Singh a resident of Talwandi Bharo village and his wife Jagbir Kaur.
Amrik Singh a resident of Uggi village had complained to Jalandhar(rural) senior superintendent of police that the accused couple solemnized the marriage of their daughter Lovepreet Kaur with his son Varinder Singh in December 2019 and he bearded all expenses to facilitate his daughter-in-law’s migration to Canada but the accused refused to fulfil their promise of migration of his son to Canada and asked for a divorce and threatened to frame him in a false case of dowdy and to marry their daughter with her lover and thus cheated him of Rs 35 Lakhs
IO said that a case under section 406 (breach of trust). 420 (cheating) and 34 (committing crime with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the accused and their daughter after an inquiry
and released them on bail granted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
