Health department violating High Court order on scan expert at Nakodar: Bhatara

NAKODAR

Nakodar Nagar council’s former president Aditya Bhatara has accused the Punjab health department officials of violating the order of the Punjab and Haryana high court on scan expert in Nakodar civil hospital.

He said that an ultrasound sonography scanning machine at Nakodar civil hospital is sealed temporarily since last week because of the non-availability of an operating expert as the scan expert posted at Nakodar civil hospital on deputation has resigned from his post.

Bhatara said that Justice Jasbir Singh the acting chief justice and Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain while disposing of his civil writ petition in 2012 had said in their order that it is the primary duty of the State to provide medical facilities to the citizens, especially in small towns where private clinics are charging very exorbitant rates for medical treatment.

The court order had said that a writ petition has been filed to state that in Civil Hospital Nakodar, a small town, Ultrasound Machine is available but not functional due to the non-availability of an expert/ doctor to operate the same. It is further stated that because of the above fact the patients are forced to spend four times more amount on getting the scanning done through the private laboratory/ clinic.

The scanning facility is available, but it is not functional for want of a technical hand. Under the circumstances, we direct the State to appoint a technical hand/ doctor to operate the Ultrasound Machine at Civil Hospital Nakodar within three weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.

Bhatara said in absence of a scan facility human rights of expecting mothers are being grossly violated as Nakodar civil hospital authorities are referring them to Jalandhar civil hospital for the free scan. He demanded the immediate appointment of a scanning expert at Nakodar.
