Haryana Panchayat polls: second phase Voting underway in 9 districts today, 38 % polling recorded till noon

CHANDIGARH: In Haryana, the second phase of Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samitis elections are going to be held today. Nearly 38 per cent turnout was recorded till 1:30 pm in nine districts of Haryana panchayat polls.

 

Voting for electing 158 members of zila parishad and 1,244 members of panchayat samitis is underway since 7am on Wednesday.

Polling will be held in Ambala, Charkhi Dadri, Gurugram, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa and Sonipat districts. According to the report, a total of 48 lakh 67 thousand 132 voters of 9 districts will vote. These include 25 lakh 89 thousand 270 men, 22 lakh 77 thousand 795 women and 67 other voters. A total of 5 thousand 963 polling booths have been set up in 9 districts. Out of which 976 sensitive and 1023 very sensitive booths have been made.

Till 2 pm, 2,64,161 people have cast their votes in Sonipat. In Rohtak till 2 pm, 34 percent polling has been recorded.

In Sirsa, 32.1 percent voting has been done till 12 noon.

Voting is slow in Rohtak. There was 23.6 percent voting till 12 noon.

There are 48,67,132 eligible voters in the second phase and 5,963 polling stations in these nine districts. While 976 stations are sensitive, 1,023 are highly sensitive, said officials. In the first phase, polling for zila parishads and panchayat samitis was held on October 30 and polling for sarpanches and panches on November 2 in Bhiwani, Jhajjar, Jind, Kaithal, Mahendragarh, Nuh, Panchkula, Panipat and Yamunanagar. Polling for sarpanches and panches will be held on November 12.
