Khalsa Institutions Organize `Nagar Kirtan‘ to Commemorate 553rd  Guru Nanak’s Parkash Purab

  •  Colourful Procession Marks Religious Fervour and Devotion

Amritsar: Khalsa educational institutions today organized a mega religious procession ‘Nagar Kirtan’ to commemorate 553rd Parkash Purab of Sikhism’s founder Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The Nagar Kirtan started from historic Khalsa College campus and culminated at Golden Temple amid religious fervor and devotion.

 

The students from various educational institutions under Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) exhibited Gurpurab celebrations and they forming queues, chanted holy hymns from Gurbani and paraded through various parts of the city to pay obeisance at Harmandar Sahib.

 

The procession had Guru Granth Sahib placed in the well decorated palanquin, led by `Panj Paira’ (five beloveds) and participants clad in colourful dresses and attires recited hymns and `Bole So Nihal’. The display of Gatkas (Sikh martial art), music of the bands, PT Show and beating of the drums was witnessed as the students paraded through GT Road, Putlighar, Sadar, Railway Station, Bhandari Bridge, Hall gate and Town Hall before reaching Darbar Sahib.

 

The top management functionaries, led by KCGC honourary Secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Principals, teaching and non-teaching staff of the colleges and schools took part in the massive parade.

Chhina while congratulating one and all on the occasion of Gurpurab said Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message of peace and universal brotherhood was most relevant today.

 

“The society is divided and we must follow the dictates of the Guru who talked about universal brotherhood and peaceful co-existence”, said Chhina. He said as per their traditions they had arranged the Nagar Kirtan, one of the largest of its kind anywhere in the world.

 

KCGC Joint Secretaries Gunbir Singh, Ajmer Singh Heir, Sardool Singh Mannan, Paramjit Singh Bal, Members, Lakhwinder Singh Dhillon, Gurpreet Singh Gill, Gurmohinder Singh, Sarbjit Singh Hoshiar Nagar, Saragarghi Foundation Chairman Gurinderpal Singh Josan, Principals Dr. Mehal Singh, Dr. Surinder Kaur, Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Dr. Jaspal Singh, Dr. SP Dhillon, Dr. Rk Dhawan, Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Dr. Inderjit Singh Gogoani, Principal Nanak Singh, Principla Gurdev Singh, Dr. Kamaljeet Kaur, Principal Puneet Kaur Nagpal, Principal Gurinderjit Kaur, Dr. Manju Bala, Nirmaljeet Kaur and others were present.
