- Film producer and others appeared in court
Chandigarh: A petition has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking the ban on the Nihang community's portrayal of the Nihang community in the soon-to-be-released Punjabi film 'Masand'. The petitioner who himself is a Gurdaspur based Nihang - Ranjit Singh Phoolha has made the allegation on the basis of the release trailer alleged that the film hurts the religious beliefs of the entire community by the scenes filmed on the Nihangs of Sikhs which are acceptable to them at all. The producerVinay Jindal and lead artist Rabbi Kandola along with Amit Bansal appeared in the High Court in the court of Justice S Vinod Bhardwaj on Friday and made it clear that such allegations are baseless.
Meanwhile, the petitioner Ranjit Singh Phoolah has alleged that the released film 'Masand' not only plays with religious sentiments but also provokes terrorism. He alleged that in the very beginning of trailer, it was clearly shown that the film is based on true events wherein the image of late Nihang Ajit Singh Phoolah has been tarnished. Before the production of the film, the relatives of the deceased or the Nihang community were not even consulted to know the truth. The portrayal of Nihangs as 'Anti Nationals' is a deep hurt not only to one community but to the entire Sikh community.
The petitioner also requested the DGP of Punjab in this direction, but as no conducive steps were taken, hence, he had to approach the case.
