Poisonous air in Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali after Diwali, AQI level reaches Yellow Zone

Chandigarh- The air has become polluted due to bursting of crackers after 10 pm in the tricity on Diwali. The pollution level has increased significantly in the city beautiful Chandigarh on Tuesday morning, the day after Diwali. The air quality index was recorded at 177 micrograms per cubic meter at 9 am. The pollution level has gone straight from green to yellow zone.

The AQI was recorded at 134 in Panchkula, adjoining Chandigarh. Along with this, its level in Mohali was 180. However, the impact of pollution in the tricity is not as visible as in other cities. Most cities of Punjab and Haryana remained in the Orange Zone on Tuesday morning. The pollution level here is between 200 and 250.

Chandigarh Administration has given permission to burn green firecrackers. However, many firecrackers were also burst during this period, which are more polluting, which are outside the green category. On Diwali night, bursting of crackers was allowed only for two hours, but only after 6 pm in the city. It was started and kept burning on all sides with the sound of firecrackers and sparks till 11 am. A report is now being prepared on the action taken by the administration in this regard.

However, in many areas of Delhi, water was sprinkled with the help of water-tankers.

Water was sprinkled on the Anand Vihar footover bridge and its adjoining area.

Due to the fear of deteriorating air quality due to Diwali, water cannon was done by the government.
