The Shahkot police have booked a farmer on the charge of killing two persons by burning his harvested paddy fields.
The investigating officer (IO) and Malsian police post-in-charge Nirmal Singh said that the accused has been identified as Gurbhej Singh alias Bhalla son of Pritam Singh a resident of Esse Wal village.
Bhupinder Singh a resident of Nimaji Pur village said in his statement recorded with the police that he was returning from Shahkot to his village on his motorcycle and when he reached Mir Pur Saidan village around 3.10 PM on October 15 and noticed his co-villager Hardev Singh son of Gurdep Singh heading towards the village on his scooter (PB-67-C-1096).
He said in his statement that Gurbhej Singh has put afire his harvested paddy fields and smog emanating from these fields has engulfed the road reducing visibility to zero level and motorcycle coming from the opposite side driven by Gujot Singh alias Jota son of Balwindar Singh a resident of Hairan village collided head-on with scooter and both died on the spot and the accused farmer fled away seeing accident.
IO said a case under sections 304-A (causing death by negligence.) 188(disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant.) and 427(mischief) of the IPC has been registered against the accused and riads on to arrest him.
