- Pawan Kumar of Eknoor Academy and Gursewak Singh of Chachrarhi Academy adjudged the Man of the Match of in semi finals.
Jalandhar: Battle lines have been drawn as RGS Eknoor Hockey Academy, Tehang will face RGS Baba Palla Sports Club Hockey Academy, Butala in the finals of the 1st Round Glass Sports Inter Development Centres Hockey League (under 16 Years age group), in progress here at local Surjit Hockey Stadium today.
Today inthe first semi final, Tehang lads took the lead in the 3rd minute of the game when their skipper Arshdeep Singh converted the first penalty corner into goal to ahead his team by 1-0 but the lead was short lived as in the very next minute of the game Beeru of Dhannowali Academy sounded the board by a beautiful field goal with solo effort to equalise the score (1-1). In the 9th minute, Nikhial Mehmi of Eknoor Academy scored the field goal (2-1). At lemon break the winners were laefing by 2-1. After half time Eknoor lads started attacking hockey from the right flank and this time skipper Arshdeep Singh scored 2 goals in the 43rd and 48th minutes of the game (4-1) while Sukhraj Veer of Eknoor Academy completed the tally (5-1).
In the socond semifinal RGS Baba Palla Sports Club Hockey Academy, Butala defeated RGS Guru Teg Bahadur Hockey Academy, Chachrerhi by 5-1. The winner were leading by 2-0 at half time. Manjot Singh, Jean Singh, Shamsher Singh, Abhijit Singh and Gursewak Singh scored for winners while skipper of Chachrarhi Academy Udhamveer Singh was the line scorer. Gursewak Singh of winner team declared the Man of the Match.
Earlier, Working President of Surjit Hockey Society & former international hockey player Lakhwinder Pal Singh Khaira, Commandant (retd) being chief guest introduced with the teams and later Pawan Kumar of Eknoor Hockey Academy, Tehang honoured with 'Man of the match' award. On this occasion, Surinder Singh Bhapa, General Secretary, Surjit Hockey Society and former coach of the Indian Hockey team Olympian Rajinder Singh (senior) were also present .
