NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has resigned from the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, a day after he filed his nomination for the post of party president.
According to the report of news agency PTI, 80-year-old Mallikarjun Kharge has sent his resignation letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Friday night.
Kharge's resignation is being seen in line with the policy of 'one person, one post' announced at Congress' 'Chintan Shivir' in Udaipur in May this year.
It is believed that after Kharge's resignation, the names of senior leaders P Chidambaram and Digyavijay Singh are being taken at the top in the race for the post of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha.
