Sangrur police have arrested 16 such persons with 11 weapons in past 3 months
Sangrur, 8 November: In yet another case of recovery of country made weapons from Madhya Pradesh, Sangrur police have arrested five persons with two illegal firearms. The accused had been doing all kinds of illegal activities in and around Sangrur with such weapons.
Divulging more details about the case SSP Swapan Sharma said that two of the five arrested are already facing heineous cases of decoity and murder.
The accused are identified as Kuldeep Singh of Moonak, Buta Singh, Amritpal, Nikka from Mansa and Ashok Kumar from Nirwana. They all are between the age groups of 28 to 30 years.
The SSP said that while Kuldeep is facing 10 FIRs registered against him at different police stations in Sangrur and Jind (Haryana) for his involvement in theft decoity and under the Excise Act.
"They have formed a gang and apart from smuggling liquor from border areas of Punjab and Haryana surrounding Sangrur and Mansa. They also leave no opportunity to attack people with weapons smuggled from MP," the SSP furhter said.
Preliminary investigations reveals that they were not only in touch with the illegal weapon manufacturers in MP but also with other highway robbers and gangsters in Punjab and outside the country.
SSP said in total Sangrur police have so far arrested 16 such persons during the past three months. He said that a team led by DSP Lehra Manoj Gorsi had kept a tab over the activities of these suspected elements and have arrested them from near a drain adjoining Alampur village. A Maruti Zen and Hyundai Verna cars are also recovered from their possessions. A case under sections 399, 402 of the IPC and 25 of the Arms Act is registered against them at Lehra Police Station. Police is furhter investigating the matter.
