Punjab Women and Child Rights panels seek fast-track trial in POCSO case

 

JALANDHAR

 In a display of solidarity with the victim's family, Chairperson Punjab State Women Commission Raj Lali Gill, and Chairman Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (PSCPCR) Kanwardeep Singh, on Wednesday visited the bereaved family of the minor girl who recently fell victim to a heinous crime in Jalandhar City. Expressing profound grief, both extended heartfelt condolences to the family, stating that the loss was irreparable and that the Punjab Government stands firmly with them in this hour of anguish. They assured the grieving parents that the accused involved in the crime would face the iron hand of law, reiterating that the government is fully committed to ensuring justice.

 

 Ms. Gill and Mr. Singh urged that the case be taken up in a fast-track court to ensure the earliest possible conviction of the accused. They affirmed that the Commission would formally recommend a speedy trial to the Punjab Government for prompt legal conclusion. “We will raise this matter at the highest level to ensure stringent action and timely justice,” they said. Highlighting the progress of the investigation, they informed the family that the Police have already secured nine days’ remand of the accused, while forensic teams have gathered crucial evidence to strengthen the case in court. They added that any lapse or negligence during the investigation would be unacceptable, and strict action would be taken against erring officials. Later, they met Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur to review the Police action taken so far. During the meeting, they emphasized the need for a swift, transparent investigation and reiterated the demand for a fast-track trial to ensure justice without delay..
