The Nakodar Sadar police have booked three persons, including two women, on charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy.
Investigating Officer (IO) Tirath Ram said that the accused has been identified as Kulwant Singh, son of Kehar Singh, a resident of Kotla Baghu Nakodar, and his wife, Jaswindar Kaur and Paramjit Kaur, wife of Gurpreet Singh, resident of Aujla Jogi village in Kapurthala, and presently living in Melbourne, Australia.
Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Kotla Jogi village in Kapurthala, complained to Jalandhar (rural) Senior Superintendent of Police that his marriage was solemnized on December 21, 2019, with Paramjit Kaur, daughter of Kulwant Singh.
The complainant said that it was agreed before marriage that both would settle in Australia, as Paramjit Kaur had passed IELTS, and he spent Rs 17 Lakhs for the migration of Paramjit Kaur to Australia, who went in 2020, but she did not sponsor him and thus cheated him.
IO said a case under 420(cheating)and 120-B(criminal conspiracy) of the IPC has been registered against the accused after an inquiry.
