DC inspects flood-prone villages along River Satluj

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today visited several villages located along the banks of theRiver Sutlej to review the situation arising out of rising water levels. Accompanied by SSP Harvinder Singh Virk, ADC (UD) Jasbir Singh, DSP Onkar Singh Brar, and Dr. Aggarwal,  first visited Gidderpindi, where a heavy flow of water was observed in the river. He then inspected the Bundh at Gatta Mundi Kasu, a flood-prone village that had previously witnessed erosion due to the massive water force.

The District Administration Jalandhar called in army services as a precautionary measure to further strengthen the Bundh. He also directed officials to procure maximum sandbags and urged villagers to join hands with the administration in strengthening the embankment. Interacting with the residents, Dr. Aggarwal appealed to people not to venture near the riverbanks merely to witness the rising water levels, cautioning that it could be dangerous. He assured them that the Punjab Government stood firmly with the people in this testing time and that no stone would be left unturned to ensure their safety. He also directed officials to work on a war footing to prevent any flood-like situation in the district.

In another swift and proactive measure, the Jalandhar District Administration on Tuesday night called in Army services to protect the bund at the River Sutlej near Sangowal village, which was facing some erosion due to heavy rains and high-water flow.

 

Responding immediately to the Administration’s call, an entire Army column reached the site and launched the strengthening work without delay. The Deputy Commissioner, along with MLA Nakodar Inderjit Kaur Mann, and senior officials of the administration, personally remained stationed at the spot until the Bundh(near Sangowal village) was reinforced to prevent any flood-like situation. Dr. Aggarwal reiterated the Punjab Government’s unwavering commitment, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to safeguard the lives and property of people in this critical time. He assured citizens that there was no need to panic, as the administration was fully geared up and working around the clock to respond to any eventuality.
